The Last Legend of The Balkans is a hybrid composition for strings and a bulgarian folk ensemble featuring gadulka, tambura, kaval, and two Bulgarian folk singers.
Nestled between misty mountains lies Nedelino, a timeless bulgarian hamlet where life is peaceful. The idyllic reality is threatened when a mysterious stranger appears at twilight. Playing an enchanting gadulka, he seduces the villagers with a magical crystal orb – a digital simulation displaying sparkling modern cities. One by one, the villagers are lured into the sphere, leaving the real world behind forever.
The music captures the fierce battle between the traditional and modern world. Though the entire piece, the primal voices of the singers and the folk instruments clash violently with aggressive orchestral tuttis and electronic elements, driving toward a powerful crescendo finale that seals the fate of Nedelino.
